Memos

     Creating memos is a very important technical document we should become very familiar with. While you write the memo you also want to be sure of your audience. Before writing the memo you should ensure you know who you are writing to. Use the audience acronym if needed to ensure you cover everything that needs to be covered while writing your memo. The format of a memo is very distinct. There will be a DATE, TO, FROM, and SUBJECT line, these headings can be single-spaced or double-spaced. However, most important are the forms of communication in a memo there are two strategies when creating memos, direct and indirect. While using a direct memo the writer arrives at a purpose quickly, this is often used for good news or routine communication. However, while using indirect this is usually a build-up to the purpose. This technique is often used for negative, persuasive, or sales messages. Below is an example of each. 




    While writing memos you also want to ensure that you are using an appropriate balance of style and tone. Ideally, you'd want a perfect balance of too formal and too informal. You want direct and concise opening statements. Even though memos and emails do look very similar in a sense you want to make sure you separate those two in your mind. Emails are an unprofessional type of communication while memos are a professional type of communication. While writing your memo you also want to make sure you are remaining objective.
